Old village in a strategic position, dominating already prehistoric settlement and populous center in Roman times from which it derives its name: caput liberum, dedicated to God Free, also called Bacchus. The wine and the mines have been for many centuries the exclusive activity of the people of this country by narrow streets and austere profile. From its 167 meters s.l.m. the view stretches to the east and south coasts of the continental reflection of a vast sea, interrupted by the island of Montecristo and Pianosa, and the mountainous profile of Corsica.
The country is also the gateway to the promontory of Mount Magnet, home of the ancient deposits in magnetite ferriferi no longer active. The transformation from country to diamond mining and rural tourism center has taken a couple of generations, but now boasts Capoliveri all about tourist offer with residences, hotels and apartments for rent and price of each type. It's the little coves as Peducelli, Madonna delle Grazie, Innamorata, Morcone, Naregno, Lacona, the beautiful beach of clear sand of Lido di Capoliveri and many others on the fortunes of the small medieval town. Along its 38 sq km, in addition to the large sandy beaches as Lido di Capoliveri, are in fact plenty of small beaches and tiny coves of extraordinary charm, two for all: Zuccale and Barabarca.
Even today the people of Capoliveri (3,900 residents) love to recall their picturesque costume parties their culture and their history very varied and interesting, as the feast of Innamorata July 14, the grape festival in September, the feast of quarryman in the first half of May.
On summer evenings, the small town is filled with tourists who just want to walk the narrow streets lined with all manner of trinkets offered for sale from shops and stalls. As it is impossible to find parking in the village during the summer the town council has made freely available to a small and useful for the bus transfer from evening parking in the historic town center.
